Author and MSNBC Producer Debbie Bornstein Holinstat Shares Her Family’s Holocaust Survival, Secrets at EWPB Lunch

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – December 22, 2017 –Executive Women of the Palm Beaches Foundation (EWPBF) begins the New Year sharing an international story of survival, as told by a national news journalist, in recognition of National Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan. 27, 2018).

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, MSNBC and former NBC News Producer and author Debbie Bornstein Holinstat will join EWPBF for a special luncheon and book signing to discuss Survivors Club, the book she co-wrote alongside her father, Holocaust survivor Michael Bornstein.

The luncheon, which is open to the public, will begin at 11:30 a.m., and will take place at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott, 4000 RCA Blvd, Palm Beach Gardens. Tickets are $45 for member and $50 per person for non members and can be purchased by visiting www.ewpb.org  For more information, please (561) 868-7070.

During the luncheon, Holinstat will relate the unforgettable true story of how a father’s courageous wit, a mother’s fierce love, and one perfectly timed illness saved her father's life during the Holocaust.  Guests will undoubtedly recognize the iconic photo of a four-year-old Bornstein at liberation, but few people knew of the miracles behind his survival until he and Holinstat released their narrative non-fiction bestseller Survivors Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz. Shocking, but also uplifting, this story of what happened to Jews in one Polish village in the 1940s will fascinate and uplift audience members from ages 10 to 110.

Survivors Club was released March 7, 2017, to bookstores nationwide and online.

For 70 years, Bornstein chose to stay silent about his story. He spotted the photo of his four-year old self on book covers, museum walls and even in news footage used on major news networks every year, as they acknowledged Holocaust Remembrance Day. Yet he was nervous about stepping forward to identity himself as the boy in the footage because there was so much he could not remember. But when a document turned up at a museum in Israel that shed light on his survival, he knew he had to share what he’d learned.

He and Holinstat began to dig for more information and planned to write a book. But they never guessed the family secrets they’d uncover as they researched their book – secrets they will share with the EWPB audience.
