JUPITER, FL – June 29, 2017 – Summertime in Jupiter is upon us and it is time to make the most of it. We each have different approaches to living a healthy lifestyle and our own goals for how to achieve it. That being said, what can you do this summer to make it your best one yet?
Over the years, you may or may not have heard of “living a Holistic lifestyle” or possessing “a Holistic mentality” before; so what exactly is meant by these terms? Simply put, a Holistic lifestyle is a “clean," natural way of life focused on overall wellness of the mind, body, and spirit. A Holistic lifestyle is all about constantly striving to better your self both, internally and externally. Whether you are improving your eating habits or “unplugging” from technology in order to experience the outdoors more, a Holistic approach can improve your quality of life in a number of ways.
Research has proven time and time again that the mind and body are interconnected, and how you treat one will have an effect, either positive or negative, on the other. According to the Indian Journal of Palliative Care, “Holistic care is described as a behavior that recognizes a person as a whole and acknowledges the interdependence among one’s biological, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects. Holistic care includes a wide range of approaches, including medication, education, communication, self-help, and complementary treatment.” So how can we incorporate this type of care into each of our personal lives?
In today’s world, we live in a fast-paced society, there’s no doubt about it. Many of us are attached to our favorite gadgets and get caught up in the whirlwind of technology and social media. We worry so much about the next big thing happening and sometimes forget to live in the moment. For these reasons, it is especially important that we all put aside some time to slow down, take inventory of how we are feeling, and take the necessary actions to give our bodies the care they require.
When you live in paradise, in a place where it seems like the weather outside is always agreeable, it is all too easy to assume a lifestyle filled with barbeques, happy hours, and other various social gatherings with family and friends.
To balance out this laid-back way of life, it is important to maintain overall wellness in our daily routines as well in order to avoid burnout or creating harmful habits. Fortunately for us, Jupiter is filled with numerous health-conscious and reliable local businesses and natural treasures all around us so that we may maintain a healthy and happy way of life.
When it comes to nutrition, just like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it. Think of your diet the same way you would the fuel you put into your car. You cannot expect optimal health if you are consuming sub-par nutrition. Most of our food options these days are processed or full of harmful additives. Thankfully for us, there are quite a few local spots around town that offer healthy drink, snack, and meal alternatives. You just have to know where to look.
To stay in shape in Jupiter, you don’t have to look too far to find a gym, Yoga studio, Crossfit box, or park. There are fitness centers throughout the area that can meet the needs of any age or fitness level. If a structured workout environment isn’t for you, then take your workouts outside! Go for a walk or jog along the beach, rent a paddleboard and hit the river, or make use of the fitness equipment at the parks around town.
Jupiter is loaded with beautiful parks and natural areas just waiting for you to take advantage of them. There are a number of family-friendly parks in the area that offer fitness equipment, walking paths, and waterway access. The Heart Trail across the street from Carlin Park is just one example of a natural area designated for physical activity. Here you can enjoy over a mile-long track with various exercise stations along the way.
Being active during the warmer parts of the year requires certain precautions that should not be ignored. Adequate hydration is always important for optimal performance, but even more so when spending time in the sun. Proper clothing and sunblock cannot be recommended enough when living in South Florida. Sometimes you may not even realize how much sun you were exposed to until later on or even the next day. Make sure to rest in a shaded area when necessary to avoid overheating or overexertion during physical activity. Choose your outdoor workout times accordingly, preferably in the early morning or during sunset, to avoid the hotter hours of the day. Take advantage of the lakes, rivers, and ocean for leisure or activity, and to stay cool and comfortable. Most importantly, listen to your body. If it is telling you it is reaching its limits, head indoors to cool down and re-hydrate immediately. Jupiter is a great place to be active outdoors year-round, so please take the necessary measures to stay safe and healthy.
Summer is a time to enjoy yourself and to have some fun in the sun. With this in mind, take advantage of the beautiful scenery and the great resources Jupiter has to offer. So, lather up that sunscreen, grab a water bottle, try something new, and make this your best summer ever!
