Elizabeth DeBrule and David Sarama chaired the event with Katie Klause-Newitt and Sherra Sewell serving as honorary chairs. During the event Alexis Membreno shared a moving story about the Cancer Alliance and the support the organization provided by paying rent, utilities, and insurance while he fought for his life. Highlight of the event was the awarding of the Founder’s Award to Gloria Herman for her tireless dedication to supporting those in need. Also receiving recognition at the event were Sherra Sewell and Katie Klause-Newitt for their years of service.
“I am overjoyed at the success of this inaugural brunch,” shared Stanton Collemer, CEO of the organization, who explains that due to the high costs of cancer treatment and the severity of the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, many patients suffer severe financial setbacks and difficulties. “Funds raised at this event will support the CAHH’s mission of assisting the children, adults and families affected by cancer and the subsequent bills they acquire during the treatment and recovery process. These may include an inability to continue medical insurance for ongoing care, maintain transportation to go to treatment, or pay for their housing and living expenses. We are all incredibly grateful for everyone who supported this event. We can genuinely say that 100% of the monies raised are staying in our community to help our friends and neighbors.”
Notable guests in attendance include: Barbara Zand, Patty Myura, Kitty & Larry Silverstein, Gail Worth, Wendy Roberts, Dr. Roy Cacciuguida, Margaret Warnock, Olympia Devine, Sheryl Wood, Marge Sullivan, and CAHH founder Charlie Fischer.
