Cultural Council’s 2018-19 Season Preview to Include Exhibitions, Events, Lectures And More

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (Oct. 4, 2018) – The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is proud to announce its 2018-19 Season Preview of events, including unique exhibitions and performances featuring Palm Beach County artists, lectures with nationally-renowned speakers, special events and more.

The Council’s three galleries, store and visitor’s center is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its historic headquarters in downtown Lake Worth. Admission is free, unless there is a special event. Proceeds from artwork sales directly benefit local artists and support the Council’s mission to grow arts and culture in Palm Beach County.

Exhibitions

Play With Your Food!

Through Nov. 3 
The delights of the culinary world often lead to once-in-a-lifetime experiences that evoke comfort, tradition and culture. Food is also one of the ties that bind and bring friends and families together. Since people tend to eat with their eyes first, in this exhibition, 21 artists were encouraged to “play” with their food and create works of art in all media. From the painterly realism on canvas to the incredible mastery of bronze on display, here is where food will be transformed into something timeless. Exhibition sponsored by PNC Arts Alive; Jocelyn and Robin Martin.

X Marks the Spot

Nov. 16-Feb. 2 
Member Preview: Nov. 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 
Graffiti isn’t a new concept in the artistic world. Its various manifestations in the past include inscribed obscenities in ancient stone, “Kilroy was here” doodles in World War II and the many colorful, spray-painted images that decorated public places in the 1980s. Then, graffiti was considered an unwelcome form of vandalism. Now with the evolution of graffiti as mural art (à la Banksy), these lines have become blurred, and the people behind the work have transformed from “misguided youths” to professional artists. This exhibition showcases the talents of 16 local artists (emerging to professional) and focuses on the many styles and maturation of graffiti and mural art. Exhibition sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co.; Art Hive Magazine; WLRN; Berlin Family Foundation; and Galera Collective.

Modern Love

Feb. 15-May 18 
Member Preview: Feb.14, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 
Love is a universal language—whether it’s between two people, the world around us, or even self-love—this complex emotion spans cultures and defines who we are. In this exhibition, there are representations of all facets of love, as a concept, represented in many ways: color, sensation, awareness, empathy or even through nature, technology, dance and beyond. Twenty-one Palm Beach County artists will be sharing their love in this exhibition, co-curated by Kristin Miller Hopkins. Exhibition sponsored by PNC Arts Alive; Jupiter Magazine; and The Palm Beacher Magazine.

Biennial 2019 

May 31-Aug. 10 
Member Preview: May 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 
What better way to celebrate the summer than to see an expansive set of artwork presented by local artists? Every two years, professional Palm Beach County artists working in a wide variety of media share their work in the Cultural Council’s biennial summer exhibition. This year’s Biennial 2019 exhibition will be juried by Melanie Johanson, curator of contemporary art at Cornell Art Museum. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Second Place and Third Place, as well as a People’s Choice award—an opportunity for patrons to vote for their favorite.

The Cultural Council provides the opportunity for professional artists in Palm Beach County to have an exclusive exhibition in the Lawrence A. Sanders Foundation Artist Resource Center to assist them as they grow and expand their careers. Solo exhibitions sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co.

A 'pop-up' exhibition by the Cultural Council, "Reimagine" will feature a mix of solo artists and samplings of current and past main exhibitions from the last six years. Summer Concert Series
June-August
What better way to celebrate the end of a long summer Saturday than to take a seat, sip a cold drink and enjoy an evening of music? The beat goes on when the Cultural Council hosts its popular Summer Concert Series with ticketed performances featuring well-known local artists. Schedule and performances to be announced in the spring.

Project Space 
Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Directly south of the Robert M. Montgomery, Jr. Building is the Cultural Council’s Project Space, which will feature new sculptures by Lucy Keshavarz (through May 2019) and offers a view of the giant Martin Luther King, Jr. mural by Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra. ABOUT THE CULTURAL COUNCIL OF PALM BEACH COUNTY

The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is the official support agency for arts and culture in The Palm Beaches, Florida’s Cultural Capital®. The Council provides grants to cultural organizations and professional artists, advocates for arts and cultural funding, enhances local arts education, offers support services to foster growth of the cultural sector and promotes cultural tourism.
