Join Loggerhead Marinelife Center for Public Sea Turtle Release

JUNO BEACH, FL – June 28, 2023 – Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) will be holding a public sea turtle release on Thursday, June 29. Sweet Potato, a subadult loggerhead, will be released at 10 a.m. on the beach located behind the Center.

Sweet Potato was found in Stuart, Fla., and arrived at Loggerhead Marinelife Center on May 2 with a flipper injury. The turtle’s right rear flipper had to be amputated, but Sweet Potato has made a full recovery under the care of the Center’s hospital team. 

What: Public release of a subadult loggerhead sea turtle

When: Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m.

Where: On the beach behind Loggerhead Marinelife Center at 14200 U.S. Highway 1, Juno Beach, FL 33408

More Information: Please arrive at 9:30 a.m. The turtle will be promptly released at 10 a.m. LMC advises guests to wear sun protection: a hat, cool clothing, and sunscreen, and to bring a reusable water bottle. All sea turtle releases are dependent on favorable weather and surf conditions. Please check marinelife.org and the Center’s social media platforms to ensure the release is moving forward. Those who can’t make it to the public release can join Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s summer programs that provide several opportunities to encounter sea turtles.
