JUPITER, FL – October 9, 2017 – Scott Sharp has done it again! This past Saturday, the Jupiter-based racecar driver and his Tequila Patron ESM team compiled of Ryan Dalziel and Brendon Hartley, raced their way to the top coming in first place of the grueling 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta. Driving the No. 2 Nissan DPi, the team held their place inside the top five for most of the race, displaying the talent that is vastly apparent when the Patron cars speed around the track. As this race was judged on the endurance of the team collectively, the durability of equipment and stamina of the participants played a key role in their success.
But it was no easy race, in fact, it was the dramatic ending to which made their victory so sweet! It came down to the race’s final restart with only 28 minutes left to excel past competitors. Pipo Derani in team’s No. 22 machine was holding the lead against Filipe Albuquerque, who was in the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R, with Hartley in third, and Dane Cameron fourth in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi.
By the end of the first lap following the restart, Derani and Albuquerque held their positions as Cameron took the forefront of Hartley in the running order. Then chaos struck! Teammates Albuquerque and Cameron tangled, leaving Derani in a dust up with fellow competitor Ryan Briscoe, causing the No.22 onto pit road to serve a penalty for incident responsibility. This then lead Hartley to finish with the cleanest closing stint, resulting in the Patron team being rewarded with a victory of one of the crown jewels in sports car racing.
Together the team ran themselves around the track a total of 402 laps with their best time being 1:12.612 at 125.929 MPH. Talk about the need for speed! For Sharp, Dalziel, and the Patron ESM team, it was the third major North American endurance race win in the past two years. If not obvious, Jupiter proves to be a prime place for sports stars’ talents to reside, rejuvenate, and receive.
