Miami, FL - November 25, 2020 – The Miami Design District today announced a robust program of cultural exhibitions and activities throughout the neighborhood launching on November 27th. Major international art galleries that regularly exhibit at Art Basel including Lévy Gorvy in collaboration with Salon 94 Design and Mitchell-Innes & Nash will be joined by Jeffrey Deitch, a second Miami outpost of David Castillo Gallery, as well as Ramiken and design galleries
Todd Merrill Studio and R & Company in partnership with Cultured Magazine. They will present in capacious, free-standing spaces, many staying through the winter of 2021.
In addition, Design Miami/ will launch its new concept Design Miami/ Podium in the historic Moore Building where the fair hosted its inaugural presentation in 2005. The theme for this curated selling exhibition is America(s), and it will feature more than 139 pieces as well as presentations by ten galleries and four Curios. The Miami Design District will also unveil Conscious Actions, its Annual Design Commission, which will be integrated throughout the streets and plazas of the neighborhood. Designed by the Chilean collective gt2P, the series of interactive, playground-inspired devices invite users to enjoy the carefree fun of childhood, while reminding them of the direct impact that every individual action has on our collective community.
Basic.space, a new hybrid digital/IRL shopping experience delivering curated fashion, vintage apparel and streetwear and more, will present a collaboration with filmmaker and auteur Harmony Kornine, including a limited edition mask designed by Korine.
World-caliber museums Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Miami and the de la Cruz Collections will both be open to the public, and tours of the Craig Robins Collection will be available by reservation.
Both Design Miami/ and Art Basel will feature robust digital programming on their respective websites, including Art Basel’s ‘OVR: Miami Beach’, live from December 4 to 6 with VIP preview days from December 2 to 4, featuring galleries accepted to the 2020 edition of its Miami Beach show.
This 10-day cultural happening will utilize the 18-square-block open-air neighborhood and its abundant public spaces. The Miami Design District allows for ample social distancing. The neighborhood adheres to meticulous cleaning protocols and offers abundant self-parking and complimentary masks.
