JUPITER, FL – January 3, 2018 – Man’s best friend has a new playground! The need for a dog park has been growing in recent years, and with “Dog Beach” being the only area for dogs to play off-leash in the Jupiter area, this will be Jupiter’s “signature park” that will open in early spring of 2018. The project will make its home at the 13-acre Cinquez Park located between Center Street and Indiantown Road. According to the Assistant Director of Planning & Zoning, Stephanie Thoburn, the grounds will be so much more than just a place for the pooches to play!

The grounds were originally proposed to become a Target, “which would have brought in a lot of traffic on Center and Indiantown, therefore, the city purchased it so commercial development could not be built there,” according to Thoburn.

The park will host three gated dog-designated areas: One for large dogs, one for smaller dogs, and one for rest and rotation. Thoburn points out that when the dogs use one gated area for play, it tends to wear down the grass and landscaping, and that by having three gated areas, one will always be “resting” or regrowing, so they can rotate which gated area is open for play and the pups will always have green grass. The park will also include picnic tables, benches, doggie water fountains, and paved and lighted walkways. The park hosts a unique quality of convenient and direct access from the surrounding neighborhoods, instead of residents having to get on Indiantown Road to access the park.

It may sound like the park has it all, but there is one thing the Parks and Recreation Department is still looking for: Donations. Thoburn states that the Town of Jupiter is in pursuit to gain grants or private funding for the next phase of the park, which will include community gardens, a children’s playground, a treehouse, and more landscaped open fields for public use. Give a round of appaws for the Jupiter community!
