JUNO BEACH, FL – May 17, 2023 – The Perry J. Cohen Foundation (PJCF) is supporting Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) by funding scholarships for kids ages 10 to 17 to attend the Center’s Junior Marine Biologist Summer Camp. These scholarships will allow underserved students to receive financial assistance so they can participate in LMC’s fun and hands-on activities that promote sea turtle rehabilitation and ocean conservation.
The Foundation was established by Perry Cohen’s mother, Pamela Cohen, and his stepfather, Nicholas Korniloff, after their 14-year-old son tragically went missing at sea in July 2015. The PJCF was created to carry on Perry’s legacy, and to support what he was most passionate about, including the advancement of environmental, marine, and wildlife education and preservation.
“Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a treasured educational facility, not just to the Tequesta community, but also to all of Palm Beach County,” said Pamela Cohen. “We want to give kids the opportunity to learn about, enjoy, and appreciate our wildlife, just like Perry did.”
Each scholarship will cover tuition for one session of LMC’s Junior Marine Biologist Summer Camp, field trips that explore local coastal ecosystems, daily lunch, camp shirts, and the option for daily extended care. The JMB Camp is categorized into age groups. Campers ages 10 to 13 will receive scholarships to the Ocean Adventures camp session, and campers ages 14 to 17 will receive scholarships to the Field Experiences camp session.
“We are honored to have the Perry J. Cohen Foundation help expand our mission of ocean conservation, education, and sea turtle rehabilitation,” said Andy Dehart, President and CEO of Loggerhead Marinelife Center. “Supporting the education of our future generation is the key to supporting our oceans and marine life.”
Scholarships will be granted based on financial need. The Center encourages families to apply if their child has a passion for wildlife and the outdoors, is curious about the ocean and local marine life, or aspires to work in the marine sciences or related fields. These scholarships will be granted in addition to LMC’s long-standing Oceans of Opportunity scholarship, and the generous scholarships supported by the Isabel Sun Memorial Foundation and the Panellas family.
