JUPITER, FL – February 8, 2017 – United States Representative Brian Mast will serve as Honorary Walk Master and an esteemed speaker at Generation Stand UP’s “Neon Nights #Glow2Know that #weRcommunity Walk” a unique health awareness family event with teen musical performances on Friday, March 3, 6pm-10pm at Harbourside Place in Jupiter, FL.
Teen leaders from the nonprofit organization Stand UP Foundation have designed a walk to promote awareness and prevention related to social and emotional wellness with stations along the walking route providing neon bracelets and information on topics such as depression, anxiety, anti-bullying/positive relationships, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, suicide prevention, grief and loss, and infant mental health.
U.S. Congressman Mast will address and join the walkers sharing his personal reflections on leadership, as well as social and emotional health and wellness from a veteran’s perspective. Keeping with the theme, he’ll also share how community can make for a strong support network. A U.S. Army Veteran, U.S. Congressman Mast served for 12 years and suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of both legs, while destroying
an improvised explosive device.“I believe in my heart that the trials we each face have little importance compared to what we do in response to each challenge that we face,” said U.S. Congressman Mast. “We as Americans do not curl up into a corner and quit when life gets tough. We own our challenges. We use those challenges as the tool to make us the strongest we have ever been.”
Stand UP Foundation is dedicated to offering the tools and skills for youth to manage and thrive though the social and emotional health challenges presented during adolescence for the overachiever or underachiever by providing innovative prevention, leadership and mentoring programs designed to build a strong generation of teens.
“We are honored to have U.S. Congressman Mast inspire us as well as other brave speakers who will enlighten us on their triumphs to overcome social and emotional health issues,” said Ashley Le Grange, director of Stand UP Foundation. “We must end social stigmas and assure all that it’s OK and desirable to ask for help.”
All proceeds from the #Glow2Know Walk will fund the continuation of Stand UP Foundation’s programs. Sponsors include FPL, Summit Performance Consulting, E.D.S. Air Conditioning and Plumbing, Schwed Law and several others. Sponsorships are still available.
Pet dogs, long regarded as beneficial companions for social and emotional wellness, are encouraged to participate with registered walkers. The Pawsitive Action Foundation, a nonprofit organization, will provide information on their highly-trained assistance dogs which help meet the needs of veterans and people with different abilities as ongoing support to enhance their quality of life –physically, emotionally and socially.
